I recommend against using gradients. They don't look all that flash-hot

Gradients are usually one color that gradually changes hue and contrast to gradually become a different color... It's like a waterfall of cascading color... It can either flow in a horizontal, or vertical direction... And the colors usually don't have any visible lines when they change from one color to the next... And G-11 is right; there are better things out there, like background images, that look better than gradients... But it would be good for someone just starting out...

yup. I use gradients on my forum, but different ones to that. I suggest anyone making a forum uses them coz it makes it look really cool.

Definitely, anything to improve the look and style of your forum is always a pleaser. And just a general thought, make sure the gradients match your color scheme, and that they meld well with the surrounding colors.
